What’s the difference between Deluxe & Essential?
There are several differences between the Deluxe vs Essential Birdy. Although both styles are visually identical and the same size, the Deluxe Birdy will have all the bells and whistles for maximum functionality. Whilst the Essential Birdy is our base model and comes with select features and just the core accessories. The differences listed below:
1. The Deluxe Birdy has two bolted exterior ‘D-Rings’ so you can carry the Birdy on your shoulder. A shoulder strap is included in all ‘Deluxe Sets’. The Essential Birdy Suitcase does not feature the ‘D-Rings’, although a shoulder strap can still be attached to the top carrying handle and would need to be purchased separately.
2. The Deluxe Birdy is designed with a backside trolley sleeve making it stackable luggage. An additional feature that comes with just the Deluxe Birdy is a conveniently placed exterior passport / boarding pass pocket. The Essential Birdy does not include the trolley sleeve, although can still be used as the bottom Birdy to stack another Deluxe Birdy on top.
3. The Deluxe Birdy has a base leather handle to support overhead lifting in the overhead bin compartment. The Essential Birdy does not.
4. Both the Essential & Deluxe have three interior essential packing pockets. The Deluxe Birdy has three additional features that the Essential does not. The Deluxe has a built-in shoe compartment, a hair-tool holder, and two magnetic clips to secure the Birdy Wristlet.
5. The Deluxe Birdy has the choice of 8x different colors and comes with a genuine leather trim. Each color Birdy is paired with its own unique embossed exotic trim with the option of rose gold or classic gold hardware. The Essential Birdy is our 100% vegan leather bag and comes in just one option, black with rose gold hardware and a python-embossed vegan leather trim.
6. The Deluxe Birdy includes all 10 Birdy accessories where the Essential only includes 5 of the core accessories. (See next question for the exact display)

Is the bag TSA compliant?
Yes! Because the battery is removable, Birdy is approved to bring in the carry-on luggage. If you decide to check your Birdy with the airlines, the battery must be removed & taken with your carry-on.
Can I purchase only the accessories that I want, instead of the full set?
Yes! All accessories can be purchased separately. If you would like to purchase the Birdy suitcase and your select accessories, just add the Birdy ‘Suitcase’ to your cart followed by the accessories. You would not select the ‘Birdy Set’ in this case.
What style/color would you recommend?
It all depends on your preference! If you’re ordering more than one, we recommend a darker color as the bottom support luggage. Our two most popular colors is the Cognac w/ Gold Hardware, Deluxe Birdy.
How much can I pack into a Birdy?
Birdy has the maximum TSA, 9 inches of depth, allowing you to pack much more than it may first appear! Each Birdy typically packs for a 3-5 day trip. And when you travel with two stackable Birdys, you can pack for up to a 2-week trip. Check out our Youtube channel HERE for our ‘Smart Packing’ tutorial.
Does it Fit in the overhead compartment?
Yep, just like a charm. For effortless lifting, use the bottom support handle when placing it into the overhead bin.
Does a Birdy fit under the seats on aircrafts?
Birdy will fit under aisle seats only on smaller aircrafts, like 'express jets' for short distances. These planes have less overhead space, therefor they designed the seats to have more room for undercarriage.
What kind of phone does the Birdy charge?
Both Android and iPhone! The battery can also charge other devices like iPad, tablet, speaker, and whatever USB cord that will fit into the power bank!
What if airlines want to gate check my Birdy?
Not to worry! There is a Birdy Tote that either comes with the Wings Set & Upgrade, or can be purchased separately. The Birdy fits perfectly in the large bag, and has shoulder straps to tie on top to keep the protection secure.
How do I keep my Birdy clean?
There are a few best practices in keeping your Birdy as clean as possible! First, try not to let anyone else handle your Birdy. Airlines tend not to take as good of care of the suitcases as you would! Secondly, if experience an unexpected gate-check be sure to use the Birdy Protective Tote to avoid poor handling. And Third, if you get a dark exterior scuff mark, especially on some of the lighter colors, Smart Birdy has cleaning supplies available to clean the marks up.
